Creative Discovery

The Creative Discovery program is open to students in grades K-8 and is designed to appeal to the student's varying interests. Creative Discovery is offered following the trimester schedule, FALL - WINTER - SPRING, and each session is approximately ten weeks. The current trimester's session offerings are listed below.

Creative Discovery Clubs & Classes

Below you can read some of the Creative Discovery descriptions of our most popular Creative Discovery clubs and classes. This program is offered each Harborlight trimester and most sessions run from 3:30-4:30 one day per week for ten weeks. However, there are some exceptions to both the time and number of weeks. Please review your reservation form for details.

PLEASE NOTE:
  • Specialty Clubs require dual registration for those clubs hosted by a provider in our community (Mighty Kicks Soccer and Tiny Tigers, for example)
    • First, reserve a space for your student using the reservation form.
    • Second, submit the secondary registration and payment directly with the host provider.
  • Harborlight Clubs offer a discount rate for all students currently enrolled in our after school. That would be any student enrolled in our B-Block (3:00-4:30) Extended Montessori program. Additional child care is not provided for students who are not registered through the admissions office.

Grades 1-8 Fall 2024 Clubs & Classes

List of 9 items.

  • Grades 4-8: Dungeons & Dragons

This club is for beginner and experienced level players of DnD. DnD is a fantasy-based tabletop role-playing game (TTRPG). Each player in a “party” creates their own character to play and embarks on an adventure. They choose a special class, which gives them special abilities every few levels. The Dungeon Master (DM) serves as a referee and storyteller for the game, while maintaining a setting in which the adventures occur. The DM also plays the role of non-player characters (NPCs). Together, the party solves problems, engages in battles, explores, finds treasure, and uncovers knowledge. In the process, the players earn experience points and level up to become increasingly more powerful over a series of gaming sessions.

  • Grades 4-8: Magic the Gathering

Magic: The Gathering is a card game in which players, like wizards, cast spells, summon creatures, and exploit magic objects to defeat their opponents. Jump into this amazing gaming experience with the collector’s card game Magic the Gathering (MTG). Combining mythologies and story lines inspired from many different cultures, MTG allows dreams and imagination to thrive in this card game. Students will learn new strategies and formats for playing Magic: the Gathering all while having a fun time and building cooperative and collaborative skills through playing the game. Magic: The Gathering has been officially named the most complex game in the world by MIT; it encourages strategic and logical thinking skills. All students, from beginner to advanced, are encouraged to join our Magic Club. Students are encouraged to bring their own decks; we do have a limited number of decks to borrow. We build our card collection as students take home cards from our draft tournaments and are able to use those cards to construct their own decks. It is recommended to bring a 20-sided spin down die and other dice in a bag for counters. These items can be purchased online or at local game shops such as Harrison's in Salem, The Castle in Beverly, or Nostos Boutique in Ipswich.
